The "Friends of QMed" program

QMed Knowledge Foundation is a Not for profit Trust set up in December 2007. The Foundation aims to help medical teachers and students integrate best practices in searching medical literature and critically appraising the same for their academic activities and eventually in medical practice.

The Foundation conducts lectures, workshops and training programs for the students and faculty, helps them with literature searches, obtaining articles, and in their medical writing activity. To strengthen the infrastructure for such activities the Foundation trains and helps medical librarians to use the Internet and IT effectively in their services.

To enable professionals, patients, consumers and institutions working in the health care sector, to obtain the best evidence from systematic research, in order to ensure delivery and availability of optimal health care services

The Friends of QMed program

The "Friends of QMed" program is an innovative partnership approach where institutions and individuals support us in our vision and activities and QMed in turn supports its ‘Friends’ with its expertise and programs. In addition to offering our expertise through programs we will work at measuring the impact of our activities on the partner institution, its students and faculty, and plan continuous improvement.

Why should you become a Friend of QMed?

The program is open to Institutions (Medical colleges, Teaching Hospitals & Research Centers) as well as individuals in the health care profession.

By becoming a Friend of the Foundation you will

1. Support our vision. It means you believe in our vision and the intense need for our activities
2. Help us with inputs, ideas and connections to make a change in the medical education system. A change, where medical teachers will teach students to imbibe a healthy mix of the background knowledge as well as the most relevant and useful latest knowledge, and to apply it in the context of each patient
3. Receive our support and expertise as listed below

Our support for Institutional Friends – Will include a mix of the following based on an institution’s need.

1. Lectures & training programs on literature searching, medical writing and critical appraisal
2. Training of trainers for internal support
3. Strengthen the institution’s “information infrastructure” by creating a Link Out for journal collections in PubMed, developing web-based library catalogs, institutional repositories of theses / publications, the institution’s website etc

Our support for Individual Friends includes:

1. Personal training sessions
2. Access to our online training programs
   • Introduction to literature searching (Open to all)
   • PubMed
   • More in the pipeline
3. Literature searches for specific requirements
4. Assistance in procuring journal articles
5. Help in areas like referencing, maintaining references & queries related to writing articles
