Launch of QMed Knowledge Foundation

January 12, 2008 saw us all at the "Hall of Harmony", Nehru Centre, Mumbai. We had a ceremonial launch of the QMed Knowledge Foundation. Several well wishers joined us - our clients, librarians, doctors and family members.
 
The evening began with an invocation by Mrs. Parthasarathy. Girish Kunkur, Director Programs welcomed the speakers and the invitees.

Vasumathi Sriganesh, CEO then briefed the audience with a presentation - "Empowering the Medical Information User". She explained all QMed's activities, outlined what we plan to do and invited support from everyone present in the audience. She also shared with them about QMed's delight in having received many messages from all over India and the world.

The evening also witnessed the launch of a major activity of the Foundation - a Directory of Indian Medical Sites QMed has created this resource with an objective of making it the most authentic directory of Indian resources on the web. The CEO explained its functioning and the future plans for its development.

Dr. Y. K. Amdekar, Consultant Pediatrician (Hon. Pediatrician - Jaslok Hospital & Breach Candy Hospital , Mumbai)- one of the speakers of the evening highlighted the need for doctors to be able to get information updates from and through the Internet, with ease. He shared some of his personal experiences as to how he found it a challenging task, and yet how important it was when he did get what he wanted. He commended QMed's initiative in wanting to train the medical community on searching for medical literature

 
Dr. K. G. Nair, Consultant Cardiologist (Academic Director, Holy Family Hospital, Mumbai and Former Director-Research, Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai) - the other speaker of the day spoke on the importance of research, and how it was imperative to be good at finding information as well as writing and publishing good research. He set a big target for QMed - "to go global" and reach out its services world over!
 
Parvati Iyer, Director Projects proposed a Vote of thanks, on behalf of QMed - expressing gratitude for all those who worked for QMed in any capacity, at any time and for the evening's program. She then presented a on screen, a list of names of people who were involved in any activity for QMed over the years.
 
We requested all present to fill in a "Partner with QMed Knowledge Foundation" form. We also requested them to sign their "good wishes" on chart papers - with the plan that we will make an "inauguration album" of such wishes. Thanks to every individual for filling in these for us!
 
The evening ended with snacks and tea.
