| Bayer Healthcare
Bayer Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. had two requirements
a) Organization
of their in-house collection of books, journal issues and articles for easy retrieval
b) Some method of access to information on molecules (drugs) that they market
and also about the associated disease conditions. - Our solution.
1.
We used an online software - "Refworks".
Using its features, we imported bibliographical details of books available from
the NLM' s catalog, and journal articles from PubMed. For items that were not
available on any catalog, we keyed in bibliographical details. Now, users at Bayer,
can search this catalog, by author, title and keywords. Or they could simply browse
a list of folders available by name of the molecule or the disease.
2.
For their diseases and molecules (about 30 major topics) we suggested our standard
list of sub-topics. If Bayer needed some more specific sub-topics, we added them.
For each of these topics - we created QMedLINKS as shown below:
a) Links
to evidence based references in PubMed b) Links to free articles c) Links
to non-PubMed information
Cactus
Communications
Cactus wanted its library organized. They had chosen
a software "Book Collection". We used its import feature to import bibliographical
details of books available in International catalogs. We also set up a system
for Circulation of books to their inhouse employees Sanofi
Aventis Pharma Ltd QMed undertook the project for library solution
by: a) Creating a database of 1411 books and 3346 journal articles b)
Organizing the collection to facilitate easy access c) Setting up the circulation
system for issuing books/journal articles
We used Refworks to import the catalog records of books and PubMed's batch Citation Matcher to import the records for the journal articles. The records downloaded were imported into the Library Management Software SLIM21 that was purchased by Sanofi-Aventis. As a result of our efforts, their library has an accurate catalog of book and journal article records. The workflow management of importing catalog records was an exciting experience.
